Nowadays, museums and historical places are mainly visited by tourists, not local people. From my point of view, there are two reasons why the number of local residents is less than tourist, when we are talking about the number of museum and historical sites visitors.
The first reason is I think domestic residents feel that they can go to museums and ancient whenever they want. There is no need to come there soon due to the distance between their houses and those places are not far.
Tourists go to museums and ancient buildings to spend their spare time or holidays. In contrast, local people think that they do not have much time to visit historical sites and museums, even for the nearest one. For instance, I only spend my weekend with sleeping in bed or doing some relaxing activities at home. And I believe many people in Jakarta have similar thoughts like that.
So, are there any solutions to overcome that problem?
I propose two ways as potential solutions for that problem. First, the local government can make a kind of "free pass" only for local people. This program will give privileges to residents because they can enter freely to museums or historical places. But the government have to consider how to keep the business running well although they give free pass for local people.
The second solution I offered is making a blog competition only for residents. The competition will require participants to share their stories of visiting museums and historical places in their city. The government can offer some big prizes to attract local people to join this competition. Indirectly, this competition will increase the number of visitors of those tourism objects, particularly local people.
